Apparently, I only blog twice a year. What a waste of $90 a year. I’ve been avoiding this most likely because I’ve gotten tired of writing about how shitty my life is. Law school has not been kind to me and it’ll only get worse for the next two years. So now I’ve decided to turn this into a ‘things I like’ blog. Time to be positive.

In anticipation of the Oscars this weekend, I’m posting my 5 favorite movies of last year. Please, please, please don’t let Avatar win for best picture! It deserves to win every technical award there is but how can anyone think it deserves best picture? Take away all the special effects and what do you have? Cheesy dialogue and a weak story about the ‘noble savage’ starring blue people instead of Native Americans. Maybe it’s the anthropologist in me, but perpetuation of these outdated stereotypes bug the hell out of me.
Up is by far my favorite movie last year. It almost feels too sophisticated to be a children’s movie. My favorite scene is when Carl flips through the scrapbook. You don’t need any special effects or any dialogue even to convey so much emotion. I would pick Up for best picture but seeing how it’s animated, it doesn’t stand a chance.

I put off watching Star Trek for a long time cuz I’ve never seen any of the original series and frankly don’t care much for sci-fi. But holy heck, Zachary Quinto as Spock alone makes this my second favorite movie of the year! It’s essentially a popcorn flick but then again so is Avatar. I think it also deserves a nom for best picture.

I like how (500) Days of Summer doesn’t retread the same old cliches. Like the movie itself says: it’s not a love story, it’s a story about love. That makes for a refreshing film. Some people find the ending cheesy, but I think it’s cute.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince deserves a spot here simply for being the darkest Harry Potter to date. Dumbledore! After seeing the movie, I had to read the next book, the only book I’ve ever read out of the entire series.

Okay, okay, I’ve been bashing Avatar but I have to admit it was entertaining. The visuals, if nothing else in the film, are breathtaking! And even if I don’t think Sam Worthington is an especially good actor, he does make good eyecandy.

I’ve recently been obsessed with J.Crew clothes. These are few things I bought last week. Most of their stuff, like this jacket that I really really want, is too expensive for my non-existent income but I love the styles. The colors are subtle but the details are distinctly feminine. I like how the clothes look casual without being sloppy.

In the midst of the all the 2PM Jaebeom drama (what is it that he did anyway?), I’ve found new k-pop to listen to after being obsessed with Wedding Dress. It’s none other than… 2AM! Seriously, these guys are good singers and their latest mini-album has some very catchy songs. Obviously Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die is really popular right now but my favorite track is Sorry I Can’t Smile For You.

Hey all. So I waited in Barnes and Noble today for four hours so my friend could get a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Yep, I didn’t even get a copy. I’ve never even read a Harry Potter book. The movies are alright, nothing spectacular. I just can’t get into the books. I did walk away from Barnes and Noble with a free Gryffindor keychain and glow in the dark Harry Potter glasses, haha. So here’s what happens in the much anticipated final book:

Harry Potter defeats Voldemort and sinks into a deep depression which forces him to abuse heroin. Ginny dumps Harry for Neville. Ron persuades Harry to enter rehab while professing his love for Draco Malfoy. However, Hermione is pregnant with Draco’s child. Snape comes out of the closet then admits he had conspired with Dumbledore. It is revealed that Albus Dumbledore is not actually dead. He had faked his own death to claim insurance money because Hogwarts was in serious debt.

Well, there ya go. =P I actually do know the actual plot. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil it here. Hope you like the new layout. Nic Tse is amazingly gorgeous. :D

I’ve been neglecting this site for well, years now. I continue to pay yearly and monthly for this domain but I’m not sure if it’s worth it anymore. I’ve grown up so much this past year at college. I admit it’s got something to do with joining a sorority. I spent my early teenage years absorbed in the internet and webdesign. I’ve gotten more connected to the “real world” since then. The internet’s still fun. I facebook about twelve thousand times a day. But I don’t feel the need to seek validation through blogs and whatnot anymore. I still love photoshopping and sharing my artwork with others. Maybe I just need to revamp this site. Turn it into a portolio. Maybe I’ll buy a new domain. We’ll see when it’s time to renew ms.com.

In other news, this summer is going swimmingly. I went to Boston for about a week for my sorority’s national assembly, which was held in NYC. I stayed with my big sis for a weekend then at my pledge sis’ apartment. Most of the time I drank, and slept, partied, and slept. We went to gay night at a club with a straight frat guy. Hilarious! The assembly itself was boring. There was also some drama involving a 21+ club. Some of us are not yet 21, ahem, me. But whenever you get a big group of girls together, there’s bound to be drama. I’m glad everything was sorted out. There was screaming, tears, apologies, more apologies. Like one of my sisters said, sisterhood is so much more than a simple friendship. Despite everything that happens, at the end of the day, we’re still sisters. I’m still fairly new to greek life, but from what I’ve experienced so far, it’s true.

Coming home from college was a bit of a rough transition. No more drinking. No partying every weekend. My parents would kill me if they ever found out I drink! My friends at home don’t drink either. It seems like our lives are all so different now. During high school we all took the same classes, our common goal was to go to college. Now we’re in college, we’re all going in different directions. I’m not even sure which city I’ll end up in. I still have some fun in my old hometown. I saw the fireworks with my friends on July 4th. I went to the Harry Potter midnight show the other night. My sister dressed up as Cho Chang, haha. And I’m going to the zoo this weekend. If only there was a way to combine my life here and my life in Boston!
